Record win for asbestos client

Posted in Fighting for you

Maurice Blackburn recently achieved an Australian first in asbestos litigation, securing the largest ever payout for an asbestos disease sufferer.

Our client, Eric King, was employed as a machinist and fitter and on three occasions in 1972 visited a James Hardie factory, near Perth. Sadly, he was not warned about asbestos or given a mask during any of the visits.

Maurice Blackburn argued that James Hardie had failed to take reasonable care to avoid Mr King's exposure to asbestos and the courts agreed by awarding the 62-year-old $1.15 million in compensation.

This was a hard fought battle and the first mesothelioma case to go to a verdict in Victoria in more than 10 years.
